Cedar Lake UMC

Founded in 1908, Cedar Lake UMC is a church that is always seeking to bring the love of Christ to all people. We at Cedar Lake UMC desire to bring the love, hope, and peace of Christ to our neighbors, to the stranger, to the lonely, to the poor, to the world. Come grow, serve, and celebrate with us! Our style of worship is traditional. We celebrate Holy Communion monthly as an open Communion the first Sunday of the month. Our dress code is casual. We are wheelchair accessible and also provide assisted listening receivers for those that need it. All children are welcome in our worship service; however, at the rear of the sanctuary a cry room is available. We also provide a nursery and Church school.

Mission: To be disciples who are proof of God's love for all people.

Sunday School (all ages): 9:00 AM

Worship: 10:00 AM

All are welcome to worship, fellowship, and serve with us.

All are valued. All are loved. All are welcome!

Larry Pickering

Our Pastor - Larry Pickering

I am a native of Petal, MS born July 21, 1957.  Brenda, my wife of forty-one years and I raised our family, Adam, Susan and Scott in Wiggins. I am a second career pastor like so many others. I began ministry at the age of forty nine during my last six years of a thirty five year career in the engineering department of Pearl River Valley Electric Power Assn. I did my theological work at Millsaps College through Candler School of Theology completing it in early 2013. However I believe my greatest asset is the fact that I have worked for the public since I was 11.

I have always been part of the United Methodist Church and have been active in all facets of the church for most of my life. I have been youth leader, Sunday School teacher and served on about every committee in an UMC church. My call to ministry was unmistakable. I had planned to retire at age sixty and travel but at the age of forty-eight God began to lay on my heart there was something more He wanted of me. After about a year, the call became as clear as one could possibly be. To affirm my call, I received a church to pastor within two weeks. I knew then this was an answer to a year of questioning what was happening. I have been in ministry now for twelve years and loved just about every minute of it. I love being not just a preacher but a pastor who cares for his church like family members.

My goal as a pastor is simple. I want to share the love of Jesus with as many people as possible. In doing so, I want God to use me to bring as many people into a relationship with Him or a deeper relationship with Him. All the while expanding the Kingdom of God for His glory. Jesus said to love God with all your heart, mind and soul and love your neighbor as yourself. This is what I try to do by working toward that goal.
